BWHATTHEYTRAVEL Cancún, Mexico

Destination: CANCÚN, MEXICO

In the summer of 2019, I vacationed with my family to Cancún, Mexico. What I love about Mexico is the many historical treasures and attractions. I just knew that I had to see at least one Mayan ruin even though I would only be there for three days and four nights. This was one of those trips time had to be spent wisely.

We stayed at the Riu Cancun Hotel, which was right in the heart of one of the main regions tourists choose to visit, and of course, it had its own ocean view! The hotel is also super close to shopping zones, perfect for souvenirs.  I believe I was on the beach at least one or twice each day.

One the first night of the trip, food and rest was the game plan. So, I will begin talking about the different dining choices on the resort!

There are four different dining choices for dinner other than the buffet:

“Kulinarium” Gourmet restaurant

“Kawachi” Asian restaurant

Steakhouse

“La Toscana” Italian restaurant (included buffet starters and dessert)

La Toscana” Italian Restaurant

As mentioned before, the appetizers were buffet style. The choices were salad, pizza, and d’oeuvres. When it came to the main course, I could not decide between the Alfredo pasta with shrimp or the grilled fish. I ended up getting the fish and eating some of my sister’s pasta. But, of course, why choose if you can have both. The grilled fish was seasoned so well and the fish was crispy on the ends and very tender on the inside. This was definitely one of my favorite meals from the trip!

“Kawachi” Asian Restaurant

On my second night at the resort, I checked out the Asian styled restaurant. I have to say that the decorum of the restaurant was done beautifully. From the cherry blossom painted wallpaper to the chandeliers!

For the appetizers, our table was given a sushi tray to share, as well as three separate orders. You could choose from the wonton soup, the salad or the smoked salmon.

The main courses that I tried were the Teriyaki steak and the fried shrimp. Lastly, for dessert, I had the fried ice cream.

Steakhouse

The steakhouse had the best appetizers on the resort! The appetizers included shrimp and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were so crispy on the outside and sooo cheesy in the inside, not to mention the dipping sauce that was both light and sweet. The steak was amazing, but I wish it had had better sides. Lastly, for dessert, was a cheesecake drizzled with a strawberry and apple sauce around the plate.

Carlos’ n Charlie’s

I did not get to eat at the last restaurant on the resort. However, I did go to downtown to try one of the popular Mexican restaurants recommended by the hotel. The restaurant was called Carlos’ n Charlie’s.

The meal was actually free through the hotel. For the appetizers, you had the choice between salad or tortilla soup. Of course, I chose the tortilla soup because when I am on vacation, I want to eat more than just salad! For the entrees, I had chicken fajitas and red mole chicken. Now, I know what you are thinking…what the heck is red mole chicken? Let me first say there is no actual mole in this meal. Believe me, I asked! But interestingly enough, the sauce actually contained chocolate and the chicken was grilled to perfection. So, this is definitely a place I recommend eating if you visit Cancún!

Ok, so enough with the food! Now, I want to share with you the excursion I went on to Tulum to see one of the Mayan ruins. The Mayan people were so interesting. I can’t believe how short they were. I learned how everything had a purpose for them. Something like childbirth, just the ability to give life was considered power, which really just reminds us all to be thankful for what we have.

The excursion also included ATV’s rides through the jungle and swimming in an underwater cave! The cave was full of mineral water and there were live bats and fish in the cave. In other words, I was up very close to the fish swimming with them!

In conclusion, the trip was very fun and relaxing. I just wish I had stayed more than three days. Remember to check out my YouTube Video of the trip at the link above and until next time!
